Television Jobs
Actor
Actors portray a character, conveying ideas and words to an
audience, sometimes based on a script, sometimes through
improvisation.
Broadcast Engineer
Broadcast engineers work
on a wide range of equipment and systems to ensure that programmes
are transmitted across television and networks at the correct
times and to the highest technical quality. Many programmes are
broadcast from studios but can also include outside broadcasts (OBs)
when sound and images are transmitted from different locations back
to a main studio.
Broadcast journalist
Broadcast journalists are responsible for the research, writing and
editing of material for broadcast in a variety of factual, news and
current affairs programmes.
Camera operator (TV/film)
Camera operators produce visual images for films, videos, TV
productions and other specialist areas including interactive media.
The Director (film/TV)
Directors take overall
responsibility for the look, sound and style of a production. They
can work in documentaries, film or television drama, light
entertainment, commercials, news or corporate video.
Floor manager/
assistant director
A floor manager has a liaising and
co-ordinating role between the many people involved in a production,
such as guests, the audience, presenters and the director. The floor
manager ensures that events go according to a set plan and that
people taking part know their particular roles and how it fits in
with whatever else is happening.
Lighting technician
Lighting technicians are
responsible for the lighting effects seen in
film and TV work. These range from basic stage lighting and
spotlighting to strobe, searchlight, and
special effects.
Presenter / announcer
Announcers work at the front line of
television production, introducing and hosting programmes.
Presenters have a more individual role, keeping a
show running by introducing items, interviewing people, asking
questions, hosting current affairs programmes and chat shows, or
games and quiz shows.
Producer
Producers
orchestrate the various resources needed to complete productions in
sectors such as film, TV and video. All producers' work
combines detailed knowledge of the industry with extensive business
skills.
Production manager
Production managers work alongside producers, a
sound team and others to make sure that a production is made on time
and within budget.
Researcher
Researchers collect, verify and prepare
information for film and TV productions.
Screenwriter
Screenwriters create scripts for TV or film. They write
feature films, TV comedy, drama series and serials, adaptations,
animation, and children's programmes, as well as writing for the
games market and corporate production companies.
Sound Engineer
Sound engineers operate complex
and electronic equipment to reproduce music, dialogue, sound effects
and other audio content to the highest quality.
Sound Technician/Operator
Sound
technician/operators work with live and recorded sound.
In film and TV sound operators' responsibilities vary according to the
type and size of production. Their duties involve setting up
microphones and other equipment, ensuring that cables are out of
sight of the cameras.
