Big Screen TvBig Screen Tv - By "big-screen," I'm referring to sizes greater than 40 inches. (TV screens are measured diagonally to get a larger number. Keep in mind that the actual horizontal width will be a lot less.

You can convert any size TV up to 150 inches using household materials and about one hour of your time. It's really quite simple to build and virtually anyone can build the projector.

What you will need:

Cardboard (an old box will do for your first go, but any light but stiff material will do)
A Fresnel lens, available here for 5pounds
Duct tape
Stanley knife, Ruler, Pencil
Matt Black Paint

Get your TV, (a 14inch model is fine) and measure the size of the screen.

Now cut out 4 pieces of cardboard, two 45 cm long and the width of your TV screen, and two 45 cm long and the height of your TV.

Then cut out a piece of card board the same size as your TV screen, find the centre and cut out a circle 17cm in diameter. You will now have 5 pieces of cardboard. Paint these all matt black, then leave to dry.

When they have dried, take the piece that is the same size as your TV screen, and attach the fresnel lens to it with tape, (try to centre it).

Now assemble the 4 45 cm pieces of cardboard to make a box, secure with tape Inside and out as you don?t want any light to escape.

Then tape this to the front of your TV. Ensure that light only shines thru the box, and that none escapes around the edges.

Now attach some tape to the sides of the lens screen (so you can pull it back and forth when its in the box) and slide the lens and cardboard into the box on the front of your TV.

Now turn your TV upside down, turn off all the lights and draw the curtains. Start with the lens board about halfway into your TV box, and place your TV about 2inches away from a white wall, screen or white sheet.

The projector box then magnifies your TV image and projects it onto your wall. This is similar to a movie theater projector, in that it sits away from your wall or screen and projects toward it!

You should get a picture on the screen, now move back until the picture gets bigger. Stop at what feels like a good distance, and adjust the lens board until you get a clear picture. And that's it!
