ABC Television
The American Broadcasting Company or ABC is a television and radio
network in the United States, today owned by The Walt Disney
Company.
The ABC logo was designed by Paul Rand in 1962, and is still in use
today. He also designed the IBM and UPS (United Parcel Services)
logos.
ABC, a leader in entertainment, news and sports television
programming, has been a wholly owned division of The Walt Disney
Company since 1996. The television network officially celebrated its
50th anniversary in 2003 commemorating the birth of ABC as we know
it today.
ABC has also been the home to many other of network television's most
popular entertainment series: The Lone Ranger, Leave it to Beaver,
The Addams Family, Ben Casey, Batman, Marcus Welby, M.D., The
Untouchables, Happy Days, Laverne and Shirley, The Love Boat, The
Brady Bunch, Fantasy Island, Charlie's Angels, Dynasty, Growing
Pains, The Wonder Years, Roseanne, Grace Under Fire, Home
Improvement, Twin Peaks, NYPD Blue, The Drew Carey Show, The
Practice, My Wife and Kids, According to Jim, and Alias.
Through these and other programs, ABC played a seminal role in the
development of now-classic television genres such as Westerns,
medical dramas and detective shows.
